SPECIAL EVENTS

Forest Discovery Days

This year, the Chamber Forest Resource Committee hosted over 500 area students at the 2008 Forest Discovery Days held at the Pattee Canyon Recreation Area April 30th, May 1st and May 2nd.  The three-day event turned out to be a great success.  Thank you to the committee and all those involved for volunteering their time and knowledge for this great event.  We truly could not do it without our volunteers, and sponsors - thank you again!

Major Sponsors Included:

Smurfit-Stone Container ~ Plum Creek ~ Roseburg Forest Products

Thank you to our sponsors, this yearly event could not be done without you!

Forest Discovery Days is a program designed to educate our youth about forest health issues and has hosted over 3,000 5th & 7th grade area students to date.  The event features activities and presentations on fire ecology, wildlife management - our students this year studied animals in the forest around them, forest management, tree planting, and pre-commercial thinning.   The event usually takes place in early May over a three day period.

This year we had a special guest, and were fortunate to have the Biomass (see picture below) which takes wood chips and creates energy!  For more information on the program or sponsorship opportunities.
