LEADERSHIP HIGH SCHOOL

Program Information
HISTORY:
Leadership High School is an outgrowth of the successful
adult leadership program that began in 1982. The Missoula
LHS program was the second high school leadership program to
be developed in Montana. Today, it acts as a model for other
Chambers beginning a LHS program in their community. LHS is
in its eleventh year which started in 1994 modeled after the
Leadership Missoula program
The Leadership High School program is designed to give
approximately 30 high school juniors an opportunity to learn
first-hand about the importance of involvement in our
community, while building effective leaders for the future.
MISSION:
LEADERSHIP
HIGH SCHOOL (LHS) is a leadership development program
designed for high school juniors that offers students the
opportunity to learn first hand about the importance of
community involvement, commitment, and the diverse needs in
our community. LHS helps students realize YOU ARE PART OF
THE GREATER WHOLE, giving them an opportunity to hear and
discuss issues and concerns facing the community, and gain
insight into the complex decision-making process that occurs
within community and business leadership. LHS students are
provided tools and skills to make a difference today and
throughout their lives.

Curriculum
LHS requires a five-month commitment. The program is
schedule from August through
January, with monthly sessions beginning at 8:00am and
ending at 3:00pm located at
various locations throughout the community.
High school sophomores interested in the LHS Program
complete application forms in May. The applications are read
by the Program Director and LHS committee members. Students
are then interviewed by a panel that includes the Program
Director and volunteers.
Students do not need a 4.0 GPA to be in Leadership
High School. The only requirement to participate is that the
student's grades must be high enough to miss one day of
school per month while attending a LHS session.
Leadership Through Service
Small group projects and attending Youth Leadership
Summits offer opportunities for
students to gain greater understanding of Leadership Through
Service and to volunteer as well-informed and ethical
citizens. LHS fulfills a need for comprehensive, hands-on
training.
