About the Van Buren Street Bridge

Did you know the Van Buren Street footbridge was once the main bridge on Higgins Avenue? It was built in 1892 as a wagon and vehicle bridge. In 1908 the bridge was moved to its current location at Van Vuren Street. In 1975 it was converted to pedestrian use for access to the University of Montana from East Broadway. The Light our Bridges campaign raised more than $100,000 in 2015 to add lights to the bridge.

About the Clark Fork River

The Clark Fork River is also known as the Clark Fork of the Columbia River. It is approximately 310 miles long and travels through Montana and Idaho. It is the largest river by volume in Montana and it drains an extensive region of the Rocky Mountains in western Montana and northern Idaho.

The Clark Fork is a Class I river for recreational purposes in Montana from Warm Springs Creek to the Idaho Border
